CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills has earned Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from DNV, recognizing the hospital’s ability to provide advanced, evidence-based care for patients experiencing the most complex strokes.
The designation reflects the hospital’s commitment to delivering integrated, accessible, reliable and personal care while meeting rigorous national standards for stroke treatment, quality improvement and patient outcomes.
Comprehensive Stroke Center designation is awarded to hospitals that demonstrate excellence in stroke care capabilities, including rapid diagnosis, advanced imaging, neurointerventional and neurosurgical procedures and coordinated multidisciplinary treatment.
“This designation represents dedication by an exceptional team focused on delivering the highest level of stroke care,” said Dr. Ryan Morton, neurosurgeon with CHRISTUS Health. “When a stroke occurs, every second matters. Our team has built a highly integrated approach that allows us to rapidly evaluate patients, provide advanced intervention when needed and deliver comprehensive care throughout recovery. This designation confirms patients across our region can depend on reliable, world-class stroke care close to home.”
The designation further strengthens access to advanced stroke services for residents throughout San Antonio, West Bexar County and surrounding communities across South and Central Texas.
“Achieving this designation demonstrates our commitment to continuous clinical excellence and patient safety,” said Dr. Manica Isiguzo, chief medical officer for CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills. “This designation recognizes the collaboration of our physicians, Associates and EMS partners who work together every day to ensure patients receive accessible, evidence-based care when they need it most. Most importantly, it means our community has access to a higher level of coordinated stroke care right here in their backyard.”
Stroke remains the leading cause of disability and death in the U.S., making timely access to specialized care essential for improving outcomes.
“This achievement is a tremendous milestone for our hospital and the communities we serve,” said Derrick Cuenca, CEO of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills. “Earning the Comprehensive Stroke Center designation reinforces our mission and our ability to provide exceptional, compassionate care that is both personal and accessible. Patients and families can feel confident knowing they have access to advanced stroke treatment, leading specialists and an integrated care team dedicated to delivering the best possible outcomes.”
